Staff Training – Support for at-risk Scholars
March 10-14, 2025, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
The Task Force for Responsible Internationalization and Global Engagement (RIGE Task Force) is excited to invite the Partners in the Utrecht Network to the Staff Training Week on “Responsible Internationalization and Institutional Support for At-risk Scholars Access to Higher Education, Training, and Employment.”
The event will take place from March 10–14, 2025 at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and it focuses on the themes of global engagement in higher education, supporting at-risk scholars, and promoting academic freedom.
Goals of the Training
The training will address the following key themes:
- Raising awareness and critically discussing responsible internationalization, especially in light of current geopolitical developments and relevant European policies.
- Sharing experiences and best practices in implementing responsible internationalization policies at both the departmental and institutional levels.
- Promoting core academic values such as academic freedom, integrity, and responsibility across the Utrecht Network and beyond.
- Building a community of informed, responsible, and globally engaged scholars and university administrators.
Target Group
This training is designed for:
- Junior Faculty, especially those managing international collaborations or supporting at-risk scholars.
- University Administrators, including policy advisors and managers involved in global engagement and supporting at-risk scholars.
- At-risk Scholars, sharing their experiences as regional experts or speakers on academic freedom and challenges faced by scholars in difficult circumstances.
Program Overview
The detailed program will be announced soon, but it will include plenary sessions and group discussions on:
- Task Force RIGE activities and events at UN member institutions.
- Implementing academic freedom and responsibility in international partnerships.
- Supporting at-risk researchers before, during, and after hosting.
- Ensuring compliance with human rights and research security regulations in international cooperation.
