About Utrecht Network

Our history

The Utrecht Network was founded in 1987 and is a network of leading European research universities focused on promoting international cooperation and advancing the internationalisation of higher education. The network was named after the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, where the first meetings were held.

Vision and Mission

  • Strengthening global engagement through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships.
  • Advance Internationalisation – Expand diverse mobility formats to build global competencies.
  • Strengthen Collaboration – Deliver high-quality international experiences within the Network and with global partners
  • Engage in European HE Policies – Contribute expertise to shape discussions on sustainability and inclusiveness

OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 25-28

Activities

  • International Exchange Opportunities for students and academics across the European partner universities and the UN global networks in Australia, the USA, and Brazil.
  • Young Researchers Grants or other grant schemes for MA and PhD students not eligible for Erasmus+ who want to do a short research stay at a UN partner institution.
  • Summer School Grants for students of UN institutions attending a UN Summer/winter School
  • International cooperation through Staff Training weeks and joint projects.
