Hosting a Utrecht Network International Summer School is an excellent opportunity to showcase your institution, strengthen collaboration with partner universities, and develop new academic initiatives such as innovative teaching formats, joint research, or publications.

Approved Summer Schools may receive a subsidy of up to €6,000 per year for a one-week programme. Additionally, each Summer School can apply for Summer School Grants (€250 per student) for participants from member institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

To receive the Utrecht Network subsidy, Summer Schools must meet the following criteria:

  • The academic content is overseen by an academic committee
  • The academic committee develops the curriculum and contributes to teaching
  • The majority of committee members represent Utrecht Network institutions
  • The majority of participants come from Utrecht Network universities or partner consortia
  • A local organiser is responsible for the practical organisation of the programme

Before the Summer School – How to Apply

1. Complete the Application Form

Fill in the UN Summer School Application Form.

2. Submit Your Application

Send your proposal to the Summer School Task Force.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted at least 8 months before the Summer School takes place.

After Approval

If your proposal is approved:

  • It will be promoted via the Utrecht Network.
  • The applicant is eligible to receive "Summer School Grants" (€250) for students from member institutions to reduce the fee for students from Utrecht Network members.
  • Additional Funding Options: Summer Schools may also benefit from Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). Contact your institutional Erasmus+ coordinator for more information. 
  • After the application deadline, the local organiser needs to confirm that the majority of participants come from the Utrecht Network universities or its global partners. This is essential for ensuring eligibility for financial subsidy.
  • After the selection process, the local organiser sends a list of grantees to the Secretariat who should then provide the information to the representatives.

During the Summer School

The local organiser and the academic committee take care of the summer school academically and logistically.

The local organiser is required to: 

  • Gather materials—such as testimonials, photos, and videos—for documentation and future promotional use.
  • Collect data on participation.
  • Conduct an evaluation process among the course participants. The local organiser and the academic committee are jointly responsible for the academic and logistical management of the Summer School.

After the Summer School

Once the report has been approved by the Summer School Task Force:

  • You may send an invoice to the Secretariat to claim the subsidy and student grants
