From 18th to 22nd August 2025, organized by Utrecht University in collaboration with Utrecht Network, this summer school offers a unique opportunity to explore the critical challenges surrounding academic freedom and human rights.

Scholarships for Utrecht Network Students

Students from universities that are part of the Utrecht Network may be eligible for a €250 grant, making participation more accessible. Additionally, limited fee waivers are available for applicants from low- and middle-income countries.

Defending Academic Freedom: Join Our Summer School

In a time when academic freedom is increasingly under threat, universities must remain spaces of free inquiry, debate, and solidarity. This program will equip participants with the knowledge and advocacy skills needed to support scholars and institutions at risk.

  • Engage in discussions on academic freedom across global contexts

  • Gain advocacy training in policy, legal frameworks, and social media
  • Connect with leading organizations like Scholars at Risk and the Magna Charta Observatory

  • Course Fee: €400 (includes materials)
  • Housing Fee: €200 (Utrecht Summer School accommodation)
